Practical hypnotherapy in Guildford

Calm, down-to-earth support for stress, anxiety, racing thoughts, disrupted sleep and tinnitus-related distress.

If your mind rarely switches off, even when there is no immediate problem to solve, hypnotherapy may help you respond differently.

I’m Will Sheward, a registered hypnotherapist working face-to-face in Guildford. I offer practical, personalised support for adults who feel overwhelmed, mentally exhausted or trapped in patterns that are difficult to change through willpower alone.

There is no mystical nonsense, no loss of control and no one-size-fits-all script. Sessions are collaborative, confidential and shaped around what is actually happening for you.

When your mind is constantly “on”

You may be functioning perfectly well on the outside while feeling very different underneath.

Perhaps you:

  • find it difficult to relax without feeling that you should be doing something

  • replay conversations or imagine everything that could go wrong

  • feel physically tense, restless or permanently on alert

  • struggle to fall asleep because your mind becomes busier at bedtime

  • wake during the night and cannot settle again

  • understand your patterns logically but still cannot seem to change them

  • avoid situations because of anxiety, fear or lack of confidence

  • find that tinnitus becomes more intrusive when you are stressed or tired

These reactions are not evidence that you are weak or failing. They are often learned responses that have become automatic.

Hypnotherapy provides an opportunity to work with those automatic responses, helping you develop calmer and more flexible ways of thinking, feeling and behaving.

What I can help with

Stress and overwhelm

When you have been under pressure for too long, your mind and body can remain in alert mode even when the immediate pressure has passed.

Hypnotherapy may help you reduce reactivity, interrupt automatic stress responses and regain a greater sense of choice.

Anxiety and racing thoughts

Anxiety can create an exhausting cycle of overthinking, physical tension, avoidance and further worry.

Our work can focus on calming that cycle, increasing tolerance of uncertainty and helping you respond to difficult thoughts without automatically being pulled into them.

Sleep problems

Trying harder to sleep usually makes sleep more difficult. Hypnotherapy can help address the alertness, anticipation and unhelpful associations that may have developed around bedtime.

The aim is not to force sleep, but to make it easier for your mind and body to allow it.

Tinnitus-related distress

I have lived with tinnitus for more than 20 years, so I understand how intrusive, frightening and exhausting it can feel.

Hypnotherapy cannot promise to remove tinnitus or cure its underlying cause. It may, however, help you change your emotional response to the sound, reduce associated stress and make it less dominant in your attention.

Hypnotherapy does not replace medical or audiological assessment. New, sudden or changing tinnitus should always be discussed with an appropriate healthcare professional.

What working with me is like

My approach is calm, straightforward and collaborative. I will not simply read a generic script while you lie in a chair. We begin by understanding what is happening, what keeps the problem going and what you would like to be different.

Sessions may include:

  • therapeutic conversation and practical psychoeducation

  • focused breathing or grounding exercises

  • guided relaxation and hypnotic techniques

  • mental rehearsal of healthier responses

  • strategies to use between appointments

You remain awake, aware and able to speak throughout. You cannot be made to reveal anything or do anything against your wishes, and you can pause or end the process at any time.

What happens next?

1. Book a free consultation

The first step is a free 20-minute online conversation.

You can explain what has been happening, ask questions and get a sense of whether my approach feels right for you. I will also be honest if I do not think hypnotherapy is the most appropriate next step.

There is no pressure or obligation to book a paid session.

2. Attend your first full session

Your first session gives us time to explore the problem in greater depth, identify your goals and begin the therapeutic work.

The session will be tailored to you rather than based on assumptions about a particular diagnosis or condition.

3. Review what changes

We will review what you notice between appointments and adapt the work accordingly.

Some people seek help with one specific issue, while others are dealing with several interconnected difficulties. The number of sessions varies, and I will not recommend continuing for longer than the work appears useful.

About your Guildford hypnotherapist

I’m Will Sheward, founder of Mind Mastery Therapy.

Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years working in senior business roles. That experience gave me a practical understanding of pressure, responsibility, workplace stress and the habit of appearing capable while privately running on empty.

My therapeutic style is compassionate but direct. I will listen carefully and take your experience seriously, but I will not bury you in jargon or pretend that hypnotherapy is magic.

I have also lived with tinnitus for more than two decades, giving me personal as well as professional insight into the relationship between attention, anxiety, sleep and distress.

Frequently asked questions

Will I lose control during hypnosis?

No. Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process rather than something that is done to you. You remain aware, can speak and can stop the session at any time.

What if I cannot be hypnotised?

Hypnosis is not a test of suggestibility or intelligence. Most people can engage with it sufficiently for therapeutic work, provided they are willing to participate. We can adjust the approach if you find particular techniques uncomfortable or distracting.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no honest universal answer. It depends on the problem, how long it has been present and what you want to achieve. We will review progress together rather than committing you to an unnecessarily long programme.

Can I attend online?

Yes. Online appointments are available across the UK. You will need a private space, a reliable internet connection and somewhere comfortable to sit or lie down.

Is hypnotherapy suitable for everyone?

No single therapy is right for everybody. Hypnotherapy is not an emergency or crisis service and does not replace appropriate medical or psychiatric treatment.

The free consultation allows us to consider suitability before you commit to a paid appointment.

Where in Guildford are you based?

Sessions take place in a private Guildford treatment room by appointment. You will receive the full address and arrival information once your booking is confirmed.

Ready to talk things through?

You do not need to know exactly what kind of therapy you need or how to describe everything perfectly.

Book a free 20-minute consultation and tell me what has been happening. We can discuss what you would like to change, answer your questions and decide whether working together feels like an appropriate next step.
